News and Announcements

In the wake of the tragedy that took the lives 15 people in a bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team on Friday, April 6, 2018, our community, along with countless others, are participating in different initiatives to honour those lost and the families left behind to mourn them.

On Thursday, April 12th, we invite everyone to wear your favourite hockey jersey to school or work. To ensure as many KLers have a jersey to wear, we are giving away jerseys. Jerseys can be picked up at the Kirkland Lake Community Complex lobby between 6 & 8 PM on Wednesday, April 11th. Jerseys are from previous years that are no longer in use for our teams, have been freshly cleaned, are free for you to have and yours to keep.

On Saturday, April 14th, the Kirkland Lake Minor Hockey Association (KLMHA), KL Gold Miners Jr. A Hockey Team, and Town of Kirkland Lake (TKL) will be hosting a fundraising skate between 5-6pm at the Kirkland Lake Community Complex.

We would like to invite EVERYONE from Kirkland Lake and surrounding areas to come out to support the Community of Humboldt during this terrible time.

Donations will be accepted at the door and donated directly to the team fundraising to help support the families. There are also a variety of extras planned, through donations of different organizations, including:

  • Tim Hortons is donating hot chocolate and many Gold Miners will be making the trip back to join us for the event.
  • Lee O’Reilly from Leeroy’s Sports & Service will be opening his Skate Sharpening Shop at the complex from 4:00pm -7:00pm, with all sharpening proceeds to be donated.
  • $1 from every fry and poutine sold at the complex canteen will also be donated.
  • Northern College massage therapy students are offering 15 minute massages for a donation towards the fundraiser.
  • A Mitch Marner jersey, donated by Dick Duff, to be raffled off (3 ballots for $5), all funds raised donated.

For those who can’t attend but would like to donate, please donate directly on

Please share this event and invite your friends so we can help spread the word.
